Jump start your holidays with a fun, interactive class! It is a great year for Acorns so let's put them to use. Enjoy ours or bring in your own (if you'd like) and we will process them together. Lunch and Book included! Come learn with HarvestWild contributor and wild food educator, Wolfy Rougle!

LEARN TO COOK WITH ACORNS:

California is oak trees! Come learn how to turn their gift of acorns into delicious meals, using tools in any kitchen. This class is fun, intensive, and hands-on.  Wild food educator Wolfgang Rougle will take you through the whole process, creating several sweet and savory acorn recipes as you participate.  Lunch is provided and you'll take home a jar of processed acorns to use at home. Along the way, you'll also learn about scouting for the yummiest acorns, caring for oak trees, human-oak history, and oak woodland ecology.    Come change the way you look at an oak tree forever!  

This is a great class for (older) children who are comfortable around kitchen things like knives and boiling water.

Please bring: A quart jar.  Acorns will be provided, but if you'd like to bring some from your home, PLEASE do so!

There will be ample vegetarian and gluten-free options. 

This class is not for those with tree nut allergies.

Wild Game Cooking Class

McCloud River Fly Fishing Clinic

Lear access points, techniques, rigging and proper presentation.  You will receive a detailed gear list before the event. Extra Fly rods will be available. This class will accommodate 10 people. Class includes a laminated quick reference guide and a HarvestWild Hat.

Medicinal Herbs Walk

Come join our expert gatherer, Wolfy Rougle, on a two-hour medicinal nature walk.  Learn about the plants that are here to help you! Whether you are a veteran forager, or everything looks like green grass to you, there is something new and exciting to learn from Wolfy Rougle. You can expect to forage for medicinal plants and expand your knowledge about wild medicinal herbs in the area.  This will be a fun outing for you, family and friends too!  You’ll also get to take home a natural-year calendar, adapted from Wolfy’s book, so you can continue to record your ecological observations.

What to Bring

  • Hat
  • Good Walking Shoes (up to 1 mile walk)
  • A Pen (paper will be provided)
  • Camera
  • Plastic bags to take food home (if you'd like)
  • Make sure to put on sunscreen
